Kidnappers, according to a source, now demand bags of rice, noodles and condiments as part of the payment in Abuja.
This new concept is now in full force in Kiyi and Anguwar Hausawa community in Kuje and Abaji area councils.
Families of kidnapped victims were asked to bring these items along with the ransom.
A relative of a kidnap victim in Kiyi village, simply identified as Joshua, said he was forced to buy some of these utems.
“Other family members did the same thing before their kidnapped relatives were released. If you fail to buy those things and take only the cash to them, they will collect it and still hold the victim until you get the foodstuff for them.”
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported a police officer was shot while trying to foil the abduction of some residents in Tungan-Maje community in Gwagwalada Area Council of Abuja on Tuesday, April 13.
A resident of the area, Ibrahim Saidu, said the gunmen in their numbers went on a rampage as they engaged both the police and some members of the vigilante in a shootout that lasted over an hour.
